A chiropractor is a doctor and a licensed professional who had studied vital subjects related to his/her profession. These subjects include human physiology, anatomy, biochemistry, pathology, microbiology, and all subjects related to the course. Spinal manipulation and the physical therapy of the joints and muscles are the major focus of this field of specialization. He/she should also undergo training in a chiropractic institution or hospital as an intern or clerk for one to two years. After the academic requirements and training, he/she should pass the licensure exams of his/her particular state or country and fulfill the academic and training requirements of that particular country or state as well.

He/she performs manual manipulation of the bones, spinal column joints and muscles to treat various forms of musculoskeletal pains and conditions. This treatment has several health benefits, from immune system enhancement, to relief of stress, to better nervous system and musculoskeletal systems function, to developing good posture and the prevention of muscle pains. They apply pressure in certain areas of the body to relieve the symptoms of other diseases.

Some people ask the question “What is a chiropractor?” because they still have not tried manual manipulation treatment; but once they come to learn about the health benefits they can derive from chiropractic, they will consider it as another treatment option.Chiropractors could also apply mechanical devices or electric therapeutic modalities which can apply traction or which can cause vibrations or muscle strengthening applications. They can also perform muscular stimulation and spinal traction through electrically-powered equipment. They should, however, be certified, licensed and qualified as chiropractors and have trained sufficiently with the updates in technology.
